What is the PRDC to EFL Clubs?

Updated: Aug 6

The Player Related Dispute Commission (PRDC) is an independent tribunal set up to resolve legal, financial, and contract disputes between English Football League (EFL) clubs and their players. Participation is compulsory under EFL regs, and clubs cannot opt out, ignore the tribunal, or refuse to take part.

Unlike standard EFL disciplinary panels where the league itself prosecutes a Club, the PRDC acts as a neutral referee in direct disputes where the player and the Club are the opposing parties.

The tribunal handles a wide range of workplace issues, from unpaid wages and performance bonuses to formal player grievances. It steps in when there is a major breakdown in a working relationship, such as when a contract is cancelled early over allegations of gross misconduct. It also serves as an official appeals body for players who want to challenge internal fines or disciplinary sanctions imposed by their Club's management.

Portraying itself as an effective driver to deal with disputes fairly and transparently once a dispute is brought before them they hold full legal authority to order compensation, decide if a contract was legally terminated, or compel a Club to honour its financial obligations. Although the commission’s decisions are legally binding, either side has a 14-day window to lodge an appeal with the EFL League Appeals Committee.
